"It's a continuation of the work that I've been doing the past 20 years," affirmed Larry Augustin, one of the most respected figures in open source and the creator of SourceForge.net, the world's largest open source software development community, as it was announced this week that he had joined JBoss Founder and former CEO Marc Fleury on the advisory board of Appcelerator, the Platinum Sponsor of AJAXWorld Conference & Expo 2008 East in New York City (March 18-20, 2008) and of SOA World Conference & Expo 2008 East (June 23-24, 2008), also in NYC.
“I’m pleased to help Appcelerator bring the benefits of open source to solve real-life business problems," said Augustin as the announcement was made.
“Larry was present at the creation of the open source movement so his appointment with Appcelerator is a natural fit,” said Jeff Haynie, the company’s chief executive. “His expertise as an early open source visionary will guide Appcelerator as we pioneer a path toward bringing rapid open source RIA development to the enterprise market.”
Appcelerator is ramping up operations and product development to help companies quickly build Web-based applications with more functionality and less code. The Appcelerator Platform, the company’s open source, next-generation Web platform, enables developers to quickly assemble cross-platform, service-oriented user interfaces using the skills and technologies they’ve already invested in to standardize their development environments and software infrastructures.
"The Appcelerator Platform is the only pure open source rich Internet application Web platform on the market today," notes Haynie, whose recent Exclusive Q&A with AJAXWorld Conference Chair Jeremy Geelan you can read in full here.
